Seascape

The sun is coming up out on the ocean
Surfers waiting for a set of waves
The fog is burning off a little early
Its looking like another perfect day

As you savor that first morning cup of coffee
Close your eyes and feel the ocean breeze
A butterfly just landed on your shoulder
And you know you’re right where you are meant to be

You think back to that day in late December
When there was just nothing more to explain
You loaded up the car and claimed your freedom
And it felt like the sunshine after rain

Sometimes there was danger in the water
When the waves were breaking hard along the shore
And the current running strong below the surface
Had you caught up in an endless tug of war

I’m afraid the lifeguard tower was vacant
So you had to save yourself instead
You swam to safety like a hero
And went home and tucked the children into be

Like a long unfinished song of joy and sorrow
What any new day may bring who can tell
Let the harmony roll on into tomorrow
And the rest of the verses write themselves

The park up on the ridge is filled with children
And the music of their laughter as they play
The clouds have disappeared from your horizon
And it’s looking like another perfect day
